This one might hurt

I don't like gen AI.

In fact, I despise the technology.

We call out people who plagiarize.

We call out people who forge.

So why are we allowing people who 'make' art or books with Gen AI, to call themselves artists or authors? It's not like they did the work.

Right?

It's like ordering food and calling yourself a chef. That's not how any of this works.

I know the struggle of creating things. I have so many failed projects that I have forgotten what I tried to do. I know there are some things that I will never be good at creating, because let's face it, not all of us can be good at everything.

I can sort of draw. But I will put out stick figure art before I use a technology that is being shoved down my throat.

'Oh but Kay, what about...'

No. Just no.

'Oh but you gain inspiration from reading other books..."

Yeah I do, but I will not regurgitate a best selling novel using just my keyboard. Besides, that is boring. Why would you not want it to be your own?

I don't want to be like everyone else. I want my work to be MINE. I don't want a random amalgamation of Stephen King and fucking Tolstoy.

'But I'm not creative...'

If you can write a thousand word prompt to make AI spit out what you want, it's not a creativity issue. It's a you issue.

And this is where it might hurt.

It's either you don't want to put in the work, you don't care about the process, or you have no pride.

Then there is the money. 'Cause it's all about the money you think you'll make by cutting corners.

Yeah, Gen AI is a big freakin' corner.

Do you know how much an average author makes off of one copy of their book?

When my book releases, I will make a whopping $2.00 per hardbound and $1.20 on paperback. This is through a national distributor. I do make more on each copy if I sell them myself, but that means I have to come up with a chunk of change to buy copies. 100 copies of my book will cost me just shy of $1000 with shipping.

For a long time, the arts have gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to what people see as valuable. People want to enjoy our creations, but they don't want to pay to enjoy our creations.

Now for a bright spot...

With the rise of AI slop that allows anyone to spit out garbage, hopefully we will see a rise in people searching out human made arts.

I was watching videos on line of a state fair, and the GenAI posters, were turning people off from spending money with those businesses.

Because if you are willing to cut corners on something like your menu, your book cover, your art for a print...
